Alexandra's story

There are many stories about angels... Beautiful angels with great wings and with pure hearts...
Those who know 5 years old Alexandra- Ecaterina Sima, will tell that she's like one of these angels, with crystalline voice and pure soul. God sent her among us to bring joy and and happiness to people and the world.

Life, though, put Alexandra and her future to a great test. Alexandra was in a car, returning from the Easter holidays with her grandparents when, because of technical problems, the car skid on the road and overturned on the road to Brasov. On the second day of Easter (5th of April 2010), while returning with her grandparents from Cluj, the car went off the road and rolled over at 50 mph. The result: nobody was hurt except for Alexandra, who was peacefully sleeping at that moment. Her grandfather doesn’t remember all the facts, but he recalls everyone noticing Alexandra’s left arm missing. At this point, not only the arm, but her life were at stake. An amasing “coincidence” made so that a medic, driving nearby, observed the accident and quickly came to provide first aid: the severe loss of blood could have ended Alexandra’s life.

She reached the Pediatric Hospital of Brasov in a state of coma, but she was eventually stabilised and then transfered to the Emergency Hospital "Floreasca" in Bucharest. Unfortunately though, it was too late for the arm to be put back. Three more critical operations followed, in order to stop Alexandra’s hemorrhages and close her other wounds.

These days, Alexandra’s state is better, her physical wounds are closing… but the wounds left in ther soul, in the soul of her parents and family are visible in their sad eyes. Sad eyes, still shocked by the tragedy that came over! At the same time, there is tremendous motivation for them for doing everything possible in order to give Alexandra a chance to a happy and blessed childhood and a normal life as any child in this world needs.

To do so, Alexandra needs an arm prosthesis to replace her lost left arm. The  arm prosthesis is not just a cosmetical replacement of the amputated limb, but is vital for the normal development of little girl’s spinal column, without any future physical problems. More, it could help her to be independent!

For Alexandra’s age- 5 years-, the specialists recommend a MIOELECTRIC ARM PROSTHESIS. The cost is approx. 20000 EUR- 27000 EUR. And because the little girl is growing, the arm prosthesis should be replaced once every two years, for correlating the new dimensions of the existing right arm with the dimensions of the prothesis. Unfortunately, an used arm prosthesis cannot be sold or reuse, that’s why on every prosthesis acquisition, the full price must be paid.

After she turns 13- 15 years, Alexandra could use a BIONIC HAND PROSTHESIS. The cost of this is approximativ 50.000-60.000 EURO/ piece and because the growing process is stopped around that age, the bionic prosthesis will be changed every 5 years.

Because these amounts represents major financial efforts, Alexandra and her parents are grateful to all those who helped them and could help them financially in the future.
